Planet Startup provides CFO support for Australia's most ambitious companies. We offer CFO-as-a-Service to startups, and internal finance team support for scaleups, to support scale and capital raising.
In this context, fractional means part time!
For startups, fractional CFO's provide strategic, commercial, finance and operation support.
Operational: FP&A, cashflow management, chart of accounts, dashboarding, performance reporting, bookkeeping, budget vs actuals, payroll and super, systems and processes
Finance: Investment modelling and milestones, internal due diligence, metrics & KPI's measurement, benchmarking, deal term review, strategy.
Commercial: Business model, pricing strategy, global expansion, cap table management, governance etc.
Strategic: Board/management packs, governance, buy-side/sale-side opportunities.
Less than 20% of pre-Series A companies have a full/part time CFO. We're on a mission to change this. Depending on your stage, budget, experience, and specific challenges/pain points, having a fractional CFO is recommended. For most post-seed, pre-series A companies, there's a lot of value in having a fractional CFO.
Bookkeepers and accountants are (mostly) awesome at what they do. Usually, that's reconciling accounts, being on top of tax, compliance & structuring issues, and some financial management sprinkled in. A great fractional CFO is much more hands on and focused on your company's future needs and projections (and hopefully does everything stated in Q3)!
